Physics for Video Games

I took this class in my freshman Spring 2025 semester. It inspired me to no end and led me to take on a minor in physics where I will get to do more work in python. Most of the work we did in class was simulating basic kinematics, but for our midterm and final projects we were tasked to make games utilizing the coding skills and physics principles we worked on throughout the semester.

Midterm:

Ball Breaker

For my midterm, I made my own version of the popular BREAKOUT game.

The prompt for my midterm project was to code a game with an object moving at constant velocity. Although my paddle could alternate direction at the players will it was always moving at the same speed.

Another twist I put on the game was the increasing speed that the blocks made the ball go with pink releasing it at the slowest velocity and red releasing it at the fastest.

This assignment meant so much more to me than a graded project. It was my first ever game I made all on my own! I felt so accomplished with this project even if it was a carbon copy of something already out there.

Nonetheless, this project made me determined to put more effort into understanding python and coding in general.

I also have a version HERE where the paddle only moves when the player guides it.

Final:

RainFall

For my midterm, I made my own original game, RainFall.

The prompt for my final project was to code a game that portrayed advanced physics topics that we had learned from the midterm on.

After many scrapped ideas I decided to hone in on a game coded around collisions and fragments.

I was highly inspired by Asteroids as you may be able to tell my rain drops act in a similar way to the asteroids.

I learned a lot about coding randomness during this project since the raindrops fall from random points and the fragments of the raindrops have random velocities from its collision point, the initial raindrop.

The payoff of finishing this project was that much more rewarding as it was my own original game idea and I dug into more reaseach about concepts not learned in class
